If you've been paying attention to the world of AI, you know that agentic AI is beginning to take over.
For the past couple of years, people have been obsessing over generative AI, but it's superpowered cousin is now stepping into the limelight.
Already, the capabilities and possibilities of agentic AI are beginning to explode, and with consistent development and innovation, it's likely that agentic AI will transform even more dramatically from here.
So what exactly does the future hold for agentic AI?
Let's start by analyzing the current landscape of agentic AI, including what it can and cannot do. Agentic AI is, like other AI products, rooted in the foundation of machine learning and neural networks. It uses sophisticated learning processes and simulated intelligence to accomplish what other, simpler technologies can't.
In some ways, generative AI and agentic AI are similar; they can both accept and respond to conversational queries, they're both designed to help users accomplish specific tasks, and they're both incredibly powerful systems.
However, agentic AI does have some critical differences with respect to generative AI. Most notably, agentic AI is designed to act like an independent agent, hence the name. Unlike generative AI, which typically produces results in direct response to user prompts, agentic AI can handle more abstract responsibilities and execute more sophisticated tasks on its own.
For example, you might use generative AI to write an article or generate an image according to your specifications. But a typical request for an agentic AI system might be to have it make a business decision, based on certain parameters.
Currently, agentic AI can be used by a variety of businesses for a variety of applications. It can be used to analyze patient data in medicine, it can detect fraud in finance, it can function as a kind of personal digital assistant, it can analyze market trends and portfolio balancing, and it can even help you make major business decisions if you give it the right types of data.
Since we're relatively early in the progression of agentic AI, we are still figuring out the best and most valuable applications. However, it's already making waves across multiple industries.
So where exactly does agentic AI go from here?
It's always hard to make predictions about technologies, but we can at least speculate on the following:
· Greater power and capabilities. One of the most obvious ways that agentic AI will progress is in the form of greater power and capabilities. With access to more resources and more streamlined processing, agentic AI will be able to handle bigger, more abstract tasks and deliver results much faster. Think of it as a natural and linear form of progression, based on agentic AI in its current state.
· Niche applications. It's also conceivable for agentic AI to become specialized in more niche applications. Already, businesses and individuals everywhere are aggressively experimenting to push agentic AI to its limits, and this technology is being used by a wide variety of different industries and departments. But agentic AI can hypothetically become even more useful when it becomes refined and focused on very specific applications. Instead of having 100 sufficiently powerful, generic forms of agentic AI, we might have millions of AI-powered agents designed for millions of small applications, respectively.
· Integration with other software. Agentic AI is also going to become more powerful when it integrates with other types of software and other technologies. Right now, generative AI and agentic AI are distinct, yet related technologies; when they work together seamlessly, they'll become even more powerful. When they work together with even more advanced forms of AI, they'll become more powerful still.
· In-depth personalization. Personalization is the name of the game in AI; it's part of what makes AI so useful and so appealing to so many people. In the near future, we can expect to see agentic AI become even more personalized, with ongoing micro adjustments to cater to individual users. In this capacity, you and a colleague may have access to two identical agentic AI tools, but you'll have very different experiences using them because the tools will adapt to your personalities, preferences, and values.
· Higher customizability and flexibility. We are also likely to see a higher degree of customizability and flexibility when it comes to agentic AI. Instead of dealing with a powerful, yet generic technology out-of-the-box, you'll be able to build the perfect agentic AI for your needs. To an extent, you can accomplish this today by working with the right custom development team. But in the future, this customizability is going to be much more accessible.
· Regulatory compliance. Already, agentic AI is being used to assist with regulatory compliance. As this technology becomes more capable and more refined, it's going to become even better and more widely used for this purpose.
· Job displacement. AI isn’t necessarily going to replace human jobs, but it certainly will displace them. In the coming years, as agentic AI becomes more refined and more accessible, it's conceivable that most human jobs and roles will require it to remain competitive. If you aren't already using agentic AI in your position, you should start making preparations to use it in the future.
· Ethical improvements. Many critics and technology enthusiasts have expressed concerns about the ethics of AI use, and in multiple respects. Although this is a complex topic with ample room for exploration, we can expect agentic AI to develop in a way that addresses these ethical concerns in the future.
· A new generation of AI tools. On some level, it's imprudent to speculate about the distant future of agentic AI. That's because in the years and decades to come, it's possible that we'll develop a form of AI that's so distinct and so much more powerful that the category of agentic AI ceases to matter. The course of technological innovation is unpredictable, though often shockingly faster than we imagine, so even today's most groundbreaking and impressive technologies may soon be outclassed.
Although it's interesting to speculate about the future of agentic AI, the truth is, it's already obscenely powerful. Soon, businesses that haven't taken full advantage of agentic AI will begin to lag behind their competitors that have.
In other words, the competitive pressure is on you to develop and integrate agentic AI tools that can drive your business forward. Our team can help you, and it all starts with a free consultation.
